rather stout, glabrous perennial with smooth, trigonous stems 20-45 cm long, growing from a shortly creeping base and a dense tuft of bright green leaves.
Ecology UK: (distribution according to flora) It occurs in wet places in limestone [and granite in France] districts and is recorded with certainty only from two localities in England.

Fleurs : 2-4 épis femelles rapprochés, ovoïdes-subglobuleux (6-12 mm), denses, dressés, subsessiles, l'inférieur parfois écarté; bractée inférieure engainante, foliacée, étalée, dépassant beaucoup la tige ; écailles fauves, ovales-lancéolées, non mucronées;

Flowers: Inflorescence comprising a single terminal male spike, sometimes female at its base, and 2-3 female 10-15 mm long, close under the terminal one; bracts rather short, leaf-like, spreading or deflexed; female glume 4 mm long, broadly ovate, acute, brownish with green midrib.

Feuilles : vert clair, larges de 2-5 mm, rudes, à ligule courte; épi mâle solitaire, linéaire, fauve;

Leaves: 4-7 mm wide, channelled, smooth, rather shorter than the stem; ligule 5 mm, ovate, acute.

Fruit : utricules à la fin jaunes et réfléchis, obovales-renflés (5 mm), nervés, à bec long bifide non cilié, courbé en bas, dépassant l'écaille.

Fruit: 5.0 x 2.2 mm nerved, ovoid, trigonous, narrowed gradually into a long, curved, serrulate, bifid beak, strongly de-flexed when ripe. Nut 1.7 mm, obovoid, trigonous, pointed at both ends.
